New 2025 Requirement for all Nonresident Moose Hunters
(STATEWIDE) A new requirement from the Alaska Board of Game means all nonresident moose hunters, guided and nonguided, must complete the Nonresident Moose Hunter Orientation before hunting moose in Alaska, and must carry proof of successful completion of the orientation in the field while hunting moose.
The requirement is intended to help hunters avoid mistakes commonly made by those unfamiliar with the difficulties of hunting moose in Alaska, and focuses on meat care, preparedness, shot placement, and legal requirements of moose hunting in Alaska. The orientation consists of watching the Field Care of Big Game Meat and Is This Moose Legal videos on our website, and taking the associated quiz. The quiz consists of 16 questions, and hunters must get 15 questions correct to pass the quiz and complete the orientation.
Hunters that have successfully completed the orientation and have proof of completion do not need to take it again, and hunters do not need to take the quiz annually. The Nonresident Moose Hunter Orientation and all associated materials are available online here.
Please contact the office nearest your hunt area if you have questions. Most offices are open from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and a list of offices and phone numbers is available at http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=contacts.main.
